Mourinho Putting Pressure On Title Rivals

Chelsea’s boss is well known for his subtle ways when it comes to psychological exchanges that usually take place before important games such as the one between the Blues and Manchester City on this week’s Monday night football spectacular.

According to the Daily Mail, in an attempt to put some extra pressure on his title adversaries, Mourinho is hinting towards the fact that City are using all sorts of financial mechanisms in order to avoid UEFA’s financial regulations. Although the Portuguese manager never mentioned the Citizens by name, it was clear he was pointing the finger towards the blue half of Manchester after they have just declared a reduction in their losses of almost £50million. The deals that allowed them to reduce their losses were made with some unknown financial entities for image rights.

Mourinho suggested that Platini should look into how Financial Fair Play is applied by some teams but again failing to mention the club he clearly had in mind. Chelsea’s boss also pointed out the fact that these dodgy practices create a certain imbalance between clubs and that journalists could really have something to talk about if they were to look into this particular problem.

The Blues would have trouble playing in the Champions League now if they were to abide by the Financial Fair Play standards. Fortunately for them, the £37million limit is going to enforced at the beginning of next season. This gives the Stamford Bridge club enough time to figure out how to reduce their losses which are now around £49 million.

City or Chelsea’s inability to abide by UEFA’s new set of rules could cause big problems for the Premier League. Both teams are set to secure a spot in next year’s Champions League. If they don’t get the clearance to perform, other teams that finish 5th or 6th will not be allowed to take their places leaving the Premier League with only two teams representing it in next season’s Champions League.
