Mourinho Praises Schwarzer After The Keeper’s Departure

Chelsea allowed 42 year old Mark Schwarzer to join Leicester after spending just short of 2 years at Stamford Bridge. In that time, the Australian legend made only 4 appearances for the Blues but became an important part of the team nonetheless. According to the Daily Mail, Mourinho is a strong supporter of the keeper who impressed with his attitude and with his knowledge about the game. Despite making no appearances this season, he was seen as a key component of the group. With all his experience he managed to influence a lot of youngsters including Courtois who has now become the number one choice for Mourinho.

Schwarzer will get the chance to end his career on the pitch as Leicester transferred him to replace Schmeichel who is out with injury for the rest of the season. It would be a nice way to say his goodbyes to football after a career that lasted for 25 years. Although it would have been nice to see the Australian play for a couple more years, this season might be the last time fans will have the chance to cheer for him.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to give young Jamal Blackman a chance. He will become the club’s third choice as a goalkeeper which means he will have the chance to perform in a couple of games this season. Schwarzer’s departure also means that Cech will almost certainly be staying with the Blues until the end of the season which is great news.
