Mourinho Looking To Sign Luke Shaw?

Luke Shaw has been one of the most consistent youngsters in the Premier League this season. He made his debut in 2012 and has managed 37 appearances for Southampton since then. His impressive physique and excellent attacking runs make him a perfect replacement for Ashley Cole who is in his last year of contract. Even if the English international just recently starred in a Nike commercial in which he insists he is not done with football and still has a lot to offer, it is hard to believe he will stay with the Blues for more than one or two more seasons. With that in mind, Mourinho is looking to bring in someone who is acquainted with Premier League football and can also become part of Chelsea’s project to dominate every competition over the next period of years.

The 18 year old left-back has been compared to Gareth Bale on several occasions because of his fast decision-making abilities, impressive speed and great defending. According to Metro, Southampton are not keen on losing their player who has been around for just over a year.

When asked about the Blues’ interest in signing Shaw, Mourinho did not give a direct answer and insisted his team will not be getting any new players during the winter transfer period. It is hard to believe though that after Chelsea’s poor attacking record and after how inconsistent the defense has been, reinforcements will not make their way to Stamford Bridge in January.

Luke Shaw is seen as a long term solution for replacing Cole who has not managed to make too many appearances this season. Right-back, Cesar Azpilicueta has been filling in for the English international with Bertrand seemingly overlooked but this is just a temporary situation.

Cole, Terry and Lampard are the oldest players in Chelsea’s squad and will only receive one year extensions to their contracts according to the club’s now policy. Even though all three expressed their intentions to end their careers at Stamford Bridge, it is very unlikely that 32 year old players such as Cole who still has a lot to offer will settle for sitting the entire season on the bench.
