Mourinho Is A Big Fan Of Cesar Azpilicueta

Cesar Azpilicueta is one of the most constant and impressive players Chelsea have regularly used this season. The Spaniard’s excellent abilities and most of all his incredible determination and focus have made him a true Premier League star. Despite not having the same speed as Ashley Cole or the same technical skills as the English international, the 24 year old defender more than makes up for that through discipline and on pitch awareness.

According to Metro, Azpilicueta’s way of life both on and off the pitch is something all players could learn from. In a recent interview Mourinho, who despite admitting to the fact that the Spaniard is no Oscar when it comes to skill, told fans he would surely win the Champions League if he had eleven players like the Spanish international.

The Portuguese manager pointed out the fact that talent is not enough to bring you glory. Discipline on the other hand, which is something Azpilicueta showcases in every match, is the key to securing the most important inter-club trophy a team could hope to win.

Azpilicueta’s character is another thing which convinced Mourinho to choose the Spaniard over Ashley Cole who was a fan favorite and a much more experienced player. His constant growth, despite being played out of position, and his personality are what are keeping the former Champions League winner on the bench.

Azpilicueta is managing a great string of performances and it is hard to believe Mourinho will consider replacing him anytime soon. Even with his lack of experience he still manages to perform at the highest level possible and have an impact on games like he did against Galatasaray where he set Torres up for his goal with a fine pass.
