Mourinho Hoping Cech Will Fight For A Spot In The Starting Line-Up

Thibaut Courtois is no longer a player Mourinho can simply ignore. At only 22 years of age, the Belgian is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. His form is constantly improving which made it impossible for Chelsea not to keep him this season. Despite having Cech as the team’s number 1, Mourinho had to make a decision.

Courtois was ready to give up and look for another team if the Blues hadn’t offered him a spot in the starting eleven. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Cech has lost some of his confidence and might now be wanting to rethink his future. Being 32 which is still pretty young for a keeper, Cech is not seen by anybody as a substitute player. After spending 10 years at Stamford Bridge, it is very likely that he will leave rather than sit on the bench.

Mourinho’s recent statements hint that Cech is not as eager to compete with Courtois as he first seemed. The 32 year old was warned by the Special One that despite not making a decision yet, he will have to draw the line soon. The Belgian youngster seems to have the edge and Cech knows it. Even with Mourinho’s subtle message which was clearly meant to motivate the Czech international, it is hard to believe he will continue as a substitute.
