Mourinho Eyeing Drogba Reunion?

Mourinho Eyeing Drogba Reunion?

Mourinho’s first stint at Chelsea between 2004 and 2007 was filled with success and laden with trophies. That was largely down to their brutal attacking force which was led expertly by Ivorian international Didier Drogba, who was plucked by the Portugese manager from French outfit Marseille by Mourinho. Together, the two broke records and won several trophies while they were both at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho then departed shortly after and had stints at Inter Milan and Real Madrid. Drogba however stuck around till last year before making a move to Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua, and then moving onto Turkish giants Galatasaray where he currently is. Mourinho has returned to Chelsea and has now been linked with bringing Drogba back to the club too.

It is no secret that the eccentric manager is looking for a new striker for next season despite signing young German forward Andre Schurrle already. He has lost out on the chase of Edinson Cavani who has joined Paris Saint-Germain; and is also being linked with moves for unsettled strikers Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney.

Now, Metro claims that Drogba’s name has been added to the list too, as Mourinho is giving some serious thought about pursuing the striker who he moulded into a star himself in an effort to recreate the magic which worked so well the first time around for them. Mourinho had also spoken about Drogba last week and the possible effect this potential deal could have. He said, “I can use Didier as a profile to persuade youngsters to follow me because he followed me from day one.”

With Mourinho as vocal as he has ever been about his plans, an approach from Chelsea for their club legend looks imminent. If this deal does pan out in Chelsea’s favor and Mourinho and Drogba do manage to reignite their partnership, the London outfit could very well have an upper hand right from the onset of the new season. Could this reunion really happen? And could it work?
