New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed his first text after being announced as boss by the former Champions went to Jose Mourinho, who is jealous of his list of managerial stints, according to a report in the Daily Mail but did congratulate the new United boss on his appointment as David Moyes’ successor.

Sir Alex Ferguson left the club exactly a year ago after delivering another Barclays Premier League title for the club. Soon after, David Moyes was announced as the successor, with a view to installing a British manager at the club. However, the season under Moyes had been anything but successful, and the former Everton boss was sacked just before the end of the campaign. Ryan Giggs took the helm as stand-in manager till the end of the season, and the squad performed better with the change. van Gaal takes charge of the Dutch national side for the FIFA World Cup in less than a month’s time, and the competition will be his last participation as their manager.

Mourinho and van Gaal rank as two of the best managers in the world, but the Portuguese has never been manager of a national side. van Gaal has been manager at Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Ajax and has the chance to add the World Cup to his list of accomplishments before he signs off as Holland’s supremo and he has a pretty good chance given the talented Dutch squad lead by United Captain-to-be Robin van Persie at his disposal.
