Mourinho Convinced Rooney Should Play In His Preferred Position

Mourinho seems to be keeping a close eye on Wayne Rooney who was one of his primary target transfers ever since the Portuguese manager returned to the UK. The English international managed a mediocre performance against Italy and failed to impress despite being considered England’s most important striker. According to the Mirror, Mourinho is certain that Rooney could do a lot better if not played out of position.

Chelsea’s boss, who insisted on trying to bring the English international to Stamford Bridge last summer, agreed that Hodgson has a very difficult job in putting together the right team. Sturridge and Sterling both had an amazing season for Liverpool and could not be left out. Rooney is currently England’s most iconic player so he could not be left out despite his lack of efficiency while playing for the national team.

Mourinho seems to be a big fan of the England team from when he first managed Chelsea. He is probably very interested in the way the team performs because he will have to face most of those players next season. The Portuguese manager also spoke about the fact that England have to concentrate on winning the next two matches in order to go through the next stage of the World Cup. He looked confident this will happen despite their slip-up against Italy where according to Mourinho, the better team won.
