‘Mourinho Can Drop Me, It’s Fine’ – David Luiz

‘Mourinho Can Drop Me, It’s Fine’ – David Luiz

The Brazilian, David Luiz gained a reputation of being one of the best defenders in England over the course of the last two seasons. He also ventured forward and was deployed further in the defensive midfield position where he excelled too. His stock rose over the summer which attracted big name suitors like Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Luiz rejected Barcelona’s advances in favor of a Chelsea stay, hoping that the arrival of Mourinho at Stamford Bridge in the summer will make him an even better player this season. However, things have not panned out the way he wanted them to, as instead of making progress, he has been going backwards after Mourinho has overlooked him to some extent off late.

He joins the likes of Juan Mata in being the new Chelsea outcasts, and both have not played much of a part in Chelsea’s recent league games. The duo were used in the Capital One Cup win over Swindon on Tuesday night in a much changed side, adding fuel to the speculation that they are possibly the new second choice players.

Luiz has however been quick to dismiss such rumors as Metro report him as saying that Mourinho is the boss and he has the right to make the decision of dropping a particular player, in this case, him.

Of being dropped for Fulham, he said, “It [Fulham] was just one game. Sometimes when other players go out of the team, people don’t say anything.”

“I don’t need to prove anything. Everyone knows who David Luiz is, I want to play football and enjoy myself on the pitch so when I have an opportunity to play, I want to enjoy just that.”

“I am just one player in the team. Sometimes the manager can put me in, sometimes not.”

“Mourinho chooses his 11 players to play, his philosophy and tries to do the best job for Chelsea. That for me is normal.”

“This is a big club and we have many, many good players. If Chelsea just had 11 players we could win nothing.”

With Luiz sounding optimistic about this situation, does he look likely to stay put rather than try to move on looking for better playing opportunities?
