Mourinho Blames Tiredness For Loss

According to Yahoo! Eurosport, Jose Mourinho has expressed his disappointment at Chelsea’s latest defeat in the UEFA Champions League to Swiss side FC Basel, accusing his players of ‘sleeping’ in defence, despite the Blues qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition.

Chelsea have been struggling to find the finishing touch in attack. Mourinho’s introduction to the club was seen as a positive move before the start of the Barclays Premier League campaign, but lately, a few Chelsea fans have started questioning Mourinho’s tactics in recent matches. Even though Fernando Torres’ performances have improved, his goalscoring figures still do not match those of Chelsea’s ideal centre forward.

Another controversy surrounding Mourinho’s current reign is the continual overlooking of Juan Mata. The Spanish wizard was Chelsea’s most influential player last season, and yet he has been left out of the starting eleven, to the dismay of the fans. Mata is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, and he has been the catalyst to Chelsea’s successes on various occasions.

The hectic schedule of traveling and playing internationally is probably the reason Mourinho has said his players are tired. Mourinho said, “Today I want to praise Basel. They won because we were sleeping in the last minutes, but they won also because they were the best team and they deserved to win.”

He continued: “If they weren’t sleeping, how could that ball go in? When you are tired you sleep. When you are tired you think slow. When you are tired you react late.”
