Mourinho Blames Strikers For Everton Loss

Chelsea traveled to Everton on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways following that dud 0-0 draw against Manchester United two weeks ago. Since then, Chelsea have witnessed a shuffling of their front line as young Belgian Romelu Lukaku was sent out on loan to Everton, and the Blues brought in Samuel Eto’o from Russian outfit Anzhi.

The Cameroonian striker was straight away put into the starting 11 on Saturday, however he failed to create any impact as his Chelsea debut ended in defeat. They created as many as 21 chances throughout the game, but failed to convert any of them.

In the end, it was Steven Naismith’s first-half header which was the difference and which condemned Mourinho to his first loss in his second stint as Chelsea boss. The Portugese coach was less than impressed with his side’s inability to find the back of the net as Metro report him as blaming his strikers for the loss.

“We were the best team because we played the best football, because we dominated the whole game, because we had 21 shots,” he said.

“But by the other way, a team who has 21 shots – some easy, in easy situations – and made a mistake at the end of the first half, maybe I should say we deserved to lose.”

The former Real Madrid boss went further to mention the names of the guilty players at fault for the missed chances. He singled out German international Andre Schurrle along with Eto’o and others who were on the receiving end of some harsh criticism.

“It was a good block but it is an easy goal if Schurrle passes the ball quicker,” added Mourinho.

“He gave a slow pass. Schurrle’s missed three big chances to score. Samuel’s the same and other players had chances too.”

With the Chelsea forwards coming under fire, do you think that they will put in a better performance when Chelsea go into the West London derby against Fulham next week, or will this episode create some cracks within the club between the players and the manager?
