Monaco Lining Up £25 Million Move For Chelsea Defender

Monaco are the newest cash-rich club pumping out excessive and exorbitant transfer bids, backed by yet another Russion billionaire, Dmitry Rybolovlev. They are following in the footsteps of Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG, who have proved that money can indeed win you trophies.

The newly-promoted Ligue 1 outfit have already acquired the talented duo of Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez from Porto for a combined fee of £60 million, and are also set to announce the capture of highly-rated forward Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid for a staggering £51.3 million.

Highly ambitious Monaco president, Rybolovlev, is targeting back-to-back titles after winning Ligue 2 to clinch promotion, and believes that acquiring the right profile of players under coach Claudio Ranieri can bring back the glory days at Stade Louis II.

Having acquired players in the midfield and final third of the pitch, Monaco are targeting a new centre-back who can provide more steel to their back four. Recents reports have indicated that the club tried to lure Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany to France, but were blatantly told that he is not for sale.

Having been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Kompany, Monaco have chosen to direct their efforts at another Premier League player in the form of Ivanovic. According to Dailymail, the big-spenders are now targeting a move for the Serbia international who scored the winner in the Europa League final for Chelsea two weeks ago.

The report suggests that the French side are willing to offer £25 million for the centre-back, who has relegated Blues captain John Terry to the bench with his commanding performances at the heart of Chelsea’s defence.

However, in what could be a blow to their chances of landing Ivanovic, new incoming Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the Serb, and is keen to retain him at Stamford Bridge for next season.
