Mikel Wants Craziness To Stop At Chelsea

Roman Abramovich has employed no less than ten managers since he took over the club in 2003. Currently, Rafael Benitez is at the helm albeit on an interim basis till the end of the season, and the former Liverpool manager is set to leave the club once his contract expires.

With the Spaniard’s imminent departure, the Blues are set to name their 11th manager under Abramovich in the summer. The League Managers Association (LMA) had previously referred to the high turnover of managers at Chelsea as ‘a serious embarrassment’, and even one of the Blues own players feels it is an unwarranted situation.

According to Sky Sports, Mikel has called the managerial situation at the club ‘crazy’. He said, “The club is crazy, it is. But we have to keep doing our job. We’re players. The board, the owners, make the decision and we have to stick by whoever comes in. I don’t know what’s happening. It seems another manager is going to come in.”

News had been emanating from the London camp that David Moyes and Jose Mourinho were the top targets identified by Abramovich to lead the club next season. However, with Moyes being appointed as Manchester United manager to replace Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer, it seems inevitable that the self-styled ‘Special One’ returns to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Mourinho, currently at Real Madrid, has been endorsed by club legends Frank Lampard and John Terry to return ‘home’ to Chelsea, and even Mikel would like to see the 50-year-old return to London.

The Portuguese tactician has never made short his desire to return to the Premier League one day, and that day could arrive this summer as Mourinho is widely touted to depart Real Madrid at the end of the season. His contentious relationship with Madrid President, Perez, coupled with his desire to return to the Premier League, means that he is strongly tipped to take over at Chelsea next season.

Mikel has also welcomed such rumours, with the report stating that the Nigerian feels Mourinho’s return would be massive for Chelsea. He said, “Mourinho is a fantastic guy. He’s a great guy. He’s a fantastic human being, on and off the pitch. He knows how to motivate players, how to get the best out of players. If you work with him, from the first day he tells you what he wants from you. That’s exactly how it’s going to be.”

He added, “What he wants from you is what you have to give and this is something that he’s managed to do well and if he’s the one that’s coming in it’s going to be a massive, massive plus for us.”
