Michael Owen Predicts The Scoreline As Chelsea Face Manchester City

Michael Owen is expecting Chelsea to be on the losing side when they take on Manchester City in the Champions League final tomorrow evening.

The BT Sport pundit says that he believes the Blues will defend in numbers while trying to play on the counter-attack, which he thinks will play into the hands of their opponents:

“With the league sewn up a couple of weeks ago, City have had ample time to prepare for this. That can only be of benefit to Pep Guardiola, and given Chelsea’s recent dip in form, it’s hard to make a case against City lifting their first Champions League trophy.”

“I think Chelsea will sit in here and try to catch City on the counter, however, with Manchester City so powerful on the attack, keeping them out is the ultimate test. With that in mind, I’m going for City to win their first and much-coveted, Champions League trophy.”

Owen has gone with a 2-0 victory for City, which is a somewhat debatable prediction. Since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival as manager, Chelsea have been excellent defensively, and they have shown in their last two matches against City they can limit their attacking threat.

Considering the London club’s recent form, though, you can’t really justify making them the favourites for the clash in Porto but, even so, it should be a tight game between two evenly matched teams.

The only way you can see it being a more open contest is if City do get an early goal. Chelsea will be hoping that doesn’t happen and they can frustrate their opponents while picking them off at the other end.
