Michael Owen Makes His Prediction As Chelsea Take On Sheffield United

Former England international Michael Owen expects Chelsea to pick up another win when they face Sheffield United this evening.

The BT Sport pundit says he has been impressed by the Blues’ defensive record in recent games, and he believes if Frank Lampard’s men could put it together in the final third of the pitch, they will easily pick up the three points:

“Chelsea seem to have settled down after their shaky start. A lot of this is down to both Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva having the desired effect at the back for Frank Lampard. Unbeaten in 10 matches, they have won their last three and for the first time in a decade they have had five consecutive clean sheets.”

“Sheffield United are improving. Brave performances against Liverpool and Manchester City earned the Steel City side plaudits, but if the Blues are firing here, I can see them running out comfortable winners.”

Owen is right to expect this to be a comfortable victory. On paper, the form of the two teams would suggest Chelsea should not have any problems, with the Blades having struggled to pick up results.

However, as Owen also mentions, they did give Liverpool a scare by going ahead at Anfield two weeks ago and they were always in the game versus Manchester City last weekend. Their lack of goal threat, though, means they will likely struggle to create chances against a Blues defence which has tightened up in recent weeks, and that should give Lampard’s side the platform to grab the win.
