Merson Predicts Havertz Will Be DROPPED By Tuchel Despite ‘Outstanding’ Display Against Everton

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson says he expects Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel to drop Kai Havertz when the Blues face Leeds this weekend.

The German international put in a man of the match performance in the 2-0 win over Everton on Monday night, and while Merson was extremely impressed with the forward, he doesn’t think it will be enough to keep his place in the starting eleven:

“They were a real handful against Everton, and Kai Havertz epitomised that. We finally saw his best on Monday, he was simply outstanding. I didn’t realise how quick he was! He was a real handful and the decision to bring him in last night was rewarded. The problems he has now is Havertz just had his best game for Chelsea by a million miles, but I’d be surprised if he plays next week.”

Tuchel does like to rotate so you can’t completely rule out Havertz being benched on Saturday, but it would be very harsh to take him out of the side just as he has begun to find his rhythm in a Chelsea shirt.

So far, the likes of Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham have not convinced Tuchel that they are able to play as the focal point of the attack, and Havertz has shown in one match he can play well as the false nine, so why not keep faith with him?
