Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Chelsea will finish above Tottenham this season due to the strength in depth they have in their first-team squad.

The former Arsenal midfielder feels that if Spurs lose either Harry Kane or Son Heung-Min, they would find it very hard to replace them while, in contrast, Blues boss Frank Lampard has so many options available to him:

“I say Chelsea because I think the most important thing [for Spurs] is to keep Kane and Son fit. I don’t think that’s the case with Chelsea, they’re not reliant on anybody up front. They’ve got so many options at the moment.”

Merson is bang on with this point. Especially with Chelsea having a fully fit squad, they have a wealth of different choices, especially in the final third of the pitch.

They can choose from Timo Werner, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham up front, with two number 10s in Kai Havertz and Mason Mount. Out wide, they possess remarkable depth with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Of course, a match is won whilst playing eleven v eleven and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top when both teams field their strongest line ups this evening.
