Maurizio Sarri ready to offload £40 million Chelsea flop

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is preparing to axe Tiemoue Bakayoko this summer, according to reports. 

The 23-year-old midfielder joined the Blues in a £40 million deal from AS Monaco last year, however enjoyed a torrid first season in English football.

The Frenchman came under heavy criticism in the press for his lacklustre performances in the first half of the season, including from Chelsea legend Frank Lampard who slammed his lack of ‘effort’ in the middle of the park.

Despite his critics, Bakayoko remained a constant figure in manager Antonio Conte’s midfield, making 43 appearances in all competitions, including starting 24 of the Blues’ 38 Premier League games.

Bakayoko’s role at Stamford Bridge however is now under threat with new manager Maurizio Sarri prepared to axe the France international as part of his summer overhaul.

The Italian boss has already bolstered his engine room by signing Napoli midfielder Jorginho, with the 26-year-old expected to be a regular starter at The Bridge alongside N’Golo Kante.

Should Bakayoko be forced out of Chelsea this summer, AS Monaco are understood to be keen to take him back to France, while Manchester United have also emerged has shock suitors for the 23-year-old.
