Matic Turned Down Other Offers For Mourinho’s Chelsea

Nemanja Matic finally made his official return to Chelsea yesterday after days of intense speculation. He rejoined the club which used him as a make weight in their chase of David Luiz from Benfica, back in 2011. After enjoying three successful years in Portugal, he was brought back to London by Roman Abramovich, who parted with £20.8 million for the midfielder this time around.

He comes at the ideal time for the Blues, who were starting to look jaded and lacked inspiration in the heart of midfield. The addition of Matic will add a new dimension and will be a boost for the entire club. He is set to feature heavily between now and the end of season, as Mourinho bids to end his first year of returning to Chelsea with a trophy.

Matic has now revealed that he had several offers from other clubs who were interested in his services, so much so that he had already made up his mind to join one of them, before Jose Mourinho entered the fray. Matic spoke to Benfica TV where he revealed that after speaking to Mourinho, re-joining Chelsea was a no-brainer for him, as reported by Metro.

“I had other offers from different clubs,” revealed the 25-year old.

He continued, “But Mourinho is Mourinho. It was difficult to turn him down.”

The arrival of Matic is set to lift the team, and Mourinho will be hoping that this will act as a tonic which will allow them to push into top gear in their quest for silverware.
