According to Metro, Juan Mata has raised concerns over his absences from the Chelsea squad which could adversely affect his chances of participating in the FIFA World Cup with Spain next year.

Chelsea continue their struggle to grind out results in the Barclays Premier League as their poor form takes a toll on the players. The Blues made a difficult journey to Stoke City, who are in moderate form of their own, trying to get their season kickstarted. Mourinho began the match with Andre Schurrle in the lineup, and Mata playing as the creative midfielder. Even though Schurrle scored two goals in the match, Stoke came out as eventual 3-2 winners at the Britannia Stadium. This result will not have a disastrous chances of the club’s ambitions to stay within the top four due to the fact that Manchester City drew their match against Southampton at St. Mary’s, and Manchester United lost their game at home against a resolute Newcastle United courtesy a Yohan Cabaye goal in the second half. Mourinho was not be happy with the loss, and realized the inconsistency of his side.

Mata’s season at the club began poorly, with the Spaniard hardly featuring in the starting lineup. However, things have changed in the last three fixtures, where Mata has been playing in all of the matches. Chelsea fans adore the creative touch Mata adds to the midfield. While Eden Hazard is more of a direct attacker, Mata thrives on the freedom to roam around the attacking third of the field looking to play incisive passes or deft though balls.

With Spain’s extensive midfield options, Mata is naturally concerned about a place in next year’s squad. Seemingly, the two-time Chelsea player of the season will have to maintain his place in the Chelsea team if he wants to be sure of going to Brazil.
