Ross Barkley has been the standout teenager in the Premier League so far, with his impressive performances earning him his first England cap in the World Cup qualifier against Moldova at the tender age of 19.

The talented midfielder spent the majority of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, and gained valuable first-team experience as he went on to score 4 goals in 13 appearances.

He has also represented England in all levels of youth international football and, as previously mentioned, Hodgson gave the 19-year-old his first senior cap when he substituted Jack Wilshere in England’s 4-0 win over Moldova.

He also started brightly in Everton’s 1-0 success over Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday night, and although he faded later on, his quality is unmistakable.

Such has been his mesmerising talent and trickery that the teenager is already being linked with a move to the big boys of the Premier League – United and Chelsea. According to Metro, the duo are waiting in the wings to snap up the classy midfielder from Everton when the transfer window re-opens in January.

The report suggests that both clubs have been following the midfielder for a long time. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reportedly inquired about Barkley’s availability during the summer but was immediately rebuffed.

Former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson was a long-term admirer of Barkley and even bid for him when he was just 17 years of age. His replacement, David Moyes, also knows about the midfielder’s talents having worked with him closely during his reign at Everton.

However, just like on previous occasions, Everton are set to snub any bids from interested parties as they believe they have unearthed one of the best talents in the country. The Merseyside club believe that they have produced the best Englishman from their academy after Wayne Rooney, and they will put up a fight to secure his services.

However, Chelsea and Manchester United are ready to lodge official £20 million bids to test Everton’s resolve.
