Manager Confirms “Contacts” With English Clubs As He Is Named As One Of The Frontrunners To Replace Potter At Chelsea

Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that he has had talks with Premier League teams in the past.

The 38-year-old is among the favourites to replace Graham Potter at Chelsea and, speaking about his future, Amorim said that, while he has been contacted by other clubs, he is committed to Sporting:

“I don’t want to open doors to England. I’ve already had some contacts and I’ve always said and I’ll say again that I’m very happy here. What I don’t want is to disappoint my supporters, who last week showed their displeasure with the coach. I don’t want to open other doors.”

It is believed that Amorim was contacted before Chelsea appointed Potter back in September, but it isn’t known whether the Blues have been back in touch since then.

The pressure is mounting on Potter, with his team having slipped to tenth in the Premier League table. Depending on what report you read, the next two matches could be crucial to whether he remains in charge.

Chelsea face Leeds this weekend before they take on Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie. If they crash out of Europe, it could spell the end of Potter’s time at Stamford Bridge.
