Man City Focused On Vital Game Vs Chelsea

After Chelsea thumped Swansea 5-0 on the weekend down in South Wales at the Liberty Stadium it put them 5 points ahead of Man City. As the Blues were playing on Saturday they had the chance to apply pressure on the Citizens which they duly took as Oscar and Diego Costa both were on hat-tricks but both ended with a brace each and Andre Schurrle flicked in the other goal as Chelsea scored a season high 5 goals in their demolition of the Swans. Such was Chelsea’s dominance that they also hit the woodwork twice in the first half after Oscar had given them the dream start with a goal in the first minute as they went on to lead 4-0 at half time.

Manchester City played in the late game on Sunday vs Arsenal, with the chance to close the gap to 2 points on Chelsea and they must have been expecting to roll over the Gunners as they have so often in recent times but it was not to be as they met a resolute Arsenal side who defended with purpose and scored 2 goals to deliver an impressive away win. The loss to Arsenal leaves City 5 points behind Chelsea and has prompted their manager, Manuel Pellegrini to call their upcoming game on January 31st vs Mourinho’s side a “vital” match. If City fall 8 points back of Chelsea you would think that it puts the Blues firmly in the driving seat for the Barclays Premier League title.

Before meeting Man City, Chelsea face Liverpool home and away in the Capital One Cup and then Bradford City in the FA Cup as they continue to contest 4 trophies – keeping the dream of a quadruple alive.
