However, he does not have a Chelsea future with Mourinho ready to offload him and buy a more experienced and prolific striker.

Costa is the name that has been reverberating around Stamford Bridge over the last few weeks with many believing he is Mourinho’s number one target for the summer, according to a report published by the Daily Mail recently.

The Brazil-born forward has enjoyed a superlative season with Atletico, who are close to completing a dream double of La Liga and the Champions League. Costa has been a vital cog in their machine and he has scored 36 goals in all competitions for the club.

The 25-year-old has been widely linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer with Atletico coach Diego Simeone accepting he has no power in blocking a move. The striker’s release clause is set at £32 million, which Chelsea are prepared to match.
