Lukaku Rubs Salt Into Chelsea’s Wounds

According to the DailyMail, Romelu Lukaku’s impressive start to the campaign continued on the international front as the Chelsea front man, who is on loan for the season at Everton, scored a brace for the Belgium national side in a FIFA World Cup qualifier away against Croatia at the Stadion Maksimir on Friday night. Lukaku’s goals confirmed Belgium’s place in Brazil and from being a 33-1 shot for the Cup about 12 months ago, they are now a 14-1 shot which shows how well respected this Belgian team is, lead by the dynamic Lukaku.

On the other hand, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has not had the best of starts to his second stint at the club. The Portuguese boss left Real Madrid in the summer in favor of a return to Stamford Bridge after seven years since his sacking. Mourinho enters the Barclays Premier League spectrum for the second time but the manager will be shocked at the level of competitiveness compared to his first experience in the league. All other 19 squads have a considerable amount of investment in new players, and talents no longer have the same attraction towards the top four sides. Players like Gaston Ramirez and Victor Wanyama chose to sign for Southampton over the big clubs, and have proved that the top four only notion may not exist anymore.

Chelsea have been struggling to find the back of the net this season through their strike force, and that has been a concern for Mourinho. The manager decided to send Romelu Lukaku and Victor Moses on loan to Everton and Liverpool respectively. Even though Moses played the whole of last season, the decision to send Lukaku out on loan was questioned by fans, especially considering the lack of goals from a certain Fernando Torres. Despite improving his basic skills considerably, the Spaniard has again struggled to find his name on the score sheet. Torres is yet to open his goal account in the Premier League, with Oscar the top goal scorer for the Blues with 3 league goals.

Lukaku has only played 3 matches for Everton, and has already scored 4 goals for the Merseyside club. Mourinho will be banking on Andre Schurrle and Samuel Eto’o delivering the goods very soon (both are yet to find the back of the net in the League yet) as they take time to settle in a new league, but as of now, Mourinho’s decision to send Lukaku on loan certainly has backfired against the manager.
