Lukaku Out To Prove Mourinho Wrong

According to Metro, Romelu Lukaku has revealed his frustration at being sent on loan yet again this season, as he felt that he deserved a crack at a first team spot at parent club Chelsea, before being sent away to Everton for the rest of the season.

Chelsea have been struggling for form of late, and that was reflected in their latest Barclays Premier League outing against Everton at Goodison Park. The Blues were expected to win with the quality in their side, but lost by one goal to nil thanks to a goal from Steven Naismith. While Lukaku could not feature in the Everton squad due to the Premier League rules disallowing a player to play against his parent club, the striker must have a fair idea about how good the Merseyside squad can be if used correctly. With a new manager at the helm in Roberto Martinez, the squad have enough quality to challenge for the European spots.

The Blues again showed their form is certainly not great at the moment, with their surprise 2-1 defeat to Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday night where their lack of a good goal-scoring striker was plain to see as Eto’o again looked off the pace and the only real goal threat in the team was Oscar who scored and hit the bar.

Lukaku was brought to Chelsea with a lot of expectations by then boss Andre Villas-Boas in August 2011 for an initial fee of £10 million. However, little did the Portuguese boss know that with the presence of a certain Didier Drogba in the squad, the new arrival would have no scope for a place in the first team to gain experience. The club then decided that Lukaku’s talents could not be wasted on the bench or with the reserves, and sent him on loan to West Bromwich Albion, where former Blues 1st team coach Steve Clark welcomed the Belgian with open arms. With players like Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie to assist in attack, Lukaku took over as the main striker for West Brom, and repaid the faith shown by Clark. Lukaku scored 17 goals in his season, and Chelsea were happy to welcome him back at Stamford Bridge.

However, with the presence of Demba Ba, Fernando Torres, Andre Schurrle and then Samuel Eto’o, the chances of first team football got slimmer, and Lukaku was forced to look out for a move again to ensure playing time.

When asked about whether he deserves to be with the Chelsea first team squad, Lukaku said, “Yes, because I think after last year, I deserve a chance – like I did the year before, before I went to West Brom.”

“I thought I deserved that chance, I went to West Brom on loan and did well.”

“This year, I have a point to prove first to myself, that I can do it again, and then to Chelsea, to show that I can be number one over there as well.”

Well we have to hope that Lukaku continues to develop and that he still wants to be a Chelsea player by the time the club want him back.
