Lukaku Has Earned His Chance, But Is He The Best Option?

Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku has vowed to impress the Stamford Bridge faithful, as he hopes to play a vital role in Jose Mourinho’s second stint at the club, after gaining quite a reputation in his year-long loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.

As the start of the new Barclays Premier League season approaches, Mourinho is preparing a squad to challenge for the top honors, to try and replicate the success he had in his first spell at the London club. The club chiefs are in talks with various clubs over transfer deals, but unexpectedly, have not been able to get that marquee signings through. Talks have been ongoing for players like Edinson Cavani but nothing has been concluded.

Lukaku proved to be an unknown quantity when he first arrived at West Brom after joining on loan, but his determination to win the ball, and finishing ability made him one of the most feared strikers in the Premier League last season. Also, his physical strength was one of the prime reasons for his success at Albion. With a height of more than 6 feet, Lukaku possesses exceptional aerial ability, and with his quick burst of pace, the Belgian seems like he might well have that certain “je ne sais quoi” which he will need to succeed in the face of the pressures of playing with and competing with such top international stars for Jose “the Special One” Mourinho but it really does seem like the confident mega-talanted young Belgian has what it takes to succeed at the Bridge.

Playing for West Brom under former Blues coach Steve Clark, Lukaku scored 17 goals in his 35 Premier League matches for the club last season, leaving Clark with a wish for another loan spell. However, the Blues officials had seen enough to welcome him back to the club.

According to Metro, Lukaku said, “It is good to be back. It was always my aim to come back, so now that I am here I am happy,”

“I want to improve as much as I can and be an important figure for this club.”

“I am very ambitious and also very young and I want to work hard and play as much as I can, but it is up to me.”

“If I keep going like I did last year I think it will not be a problem.”

“I am really determined to do well and hopefully help the team to success.”

I really hope Lukaku gets the chance for Chelsea and not just as a sub – he needs starts and patience – with all due respect if he could do it for West Brom then imagine what he can do with the supposed superior service and play he can expect from higher quality team mates at Chelsea then Romelu will only go from strength to strength, taking the league by storm!

Christian Benteke as well as Edinson Canani and even Luis Suarez have all been heavily linked with the blues but even if any of the three sign I still believe Luakau deserves the chance with the Chelsea first team especially now that Jose is back in charge – Lukaku will be able to fill the role that Drogba did so well for Chelsea in the late 2000’s.

What do you think can the young Belgian striker deliver the goods at Chelsea and is he a better option than Christian Benteke or Luis Suarez or Edinson Cavani who the Blues have recently all been linked with?
