Luiz Misses Champions Cup Final

According to reports emerging from the United States, Chelsea center back David Luiz missed out on the International Champions Cup final which was played against Real Madrid on Thursday night, adding further speculation about his future at the club.

Chelsea are in the last leg of their pre-season tour, and are on the back of a perfect run of wins. Jose Mourinho could not be happier about his side’s performances which have included wins against AC Milan and Inter Milan. The Blues are participating in the Champions Cup which also saw sides from Spain, England and Italy, including the two Milan clubs to fight it out for the cup. Chelsea reached the final of the competition, and faced Mourinho’s former club Madrid losing 3-1 for their 1st loss in the pre season. It was a quick return for the Portuguese manager to face his former side, which is now being managed by Carlo Ancelotti, who left his managerial post at Paris Saint Germain for the Whites.

A significant miss from the 3-1 loss was David Luiz and his no fear approach so admired by Barcelona officials, who have reportedly lodged a hefty bid for the Brazilian. The Catalan giants are not the only club to have been linked with a move for the defender, as German champions Bayern Munich were also reportedly interested in making a move for the player.

According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea had informed their supporters through their social media network that Luiz would not be taking part in the final against Madrid.

The Twitter post by Chelsea read: “While the other lads trained, @DavidLuiz-4 completed his own workout. He won’t play against Real tomorrow.”

It remains to be seen if Luiz not playing on Thursday means something but most likely it means nothing.
