London Duo To Battle For Bayern Star Mandzukic

The future of Bayern forward, Mario Mandzukic has been called into question after the runaway Bundesliga leaders announced a deal for striker Robert Lewandowski for next season. Bayern manager Pep Guardiola will reportedly choose Lewandowski over Mandzukic as his number one striker, with the latter tipped to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.

According to Inside Futbol, Mandzukic’s agent Ivan Cvjetkovic has flown to London to thrash out a deal for his client with either Arsenal or Chelsea. Although the Croatian is contracted till 2016, Bayern are prepared to let the 17-goal striker leave if a decent offer comes in.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are on the lookout for a new number one striker for the 2014-15 season. Olivier Giroud has had to shoulder the burden of being the lone striker for Arsenal this season. With money to spend, Arsenal are expected to sign a quality forward in the summer.

Even Chelsea want to buy a new number one after the failings of Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and to a lesser extent Samuel Eto’o this term. Depending on who you talk to, Torres, Ba and/or Eto’o are expected to depart Stamford Bridge this summer with Mourinho eyeing a prolific striker or two to complement his mega-talented midfield.
