Loftus-Cheek to be a ‘huge star’ at Chelsea predicts former England boss

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be a huge star for Chelsea predicts former England boss Roy Hodgson.

The 22-year-old spent last season on-loan at Hodgson’s current side Crystal Palace, where his impressive performances earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man England squad for the World Cup.

Loftus-Cheek came off the bench in England’s Group G opener against Tunisia on Monday night, and was pivotal as the Three Lions found a late winner to steal all three points. He is now expected to start for Southgate’s side tomorrow afternoon against Panama.

The Chelsea midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge currently remains up in the air, however Roy Hodgson believes Loftus-Cheek has a big future at his parent club should be return to them after the tournament in Russia.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Hodgson said of the possibility of Loftus-Cheek returning to Palace: “It’s up in the air. At the end of the day he belongs to Chelsea.

“If they decide to loan him out again we will be first in line with the begging bowl.

“But right now there is no intimation that they are thinking of doing that. We’ve made it clear to them and to Ruben that we would love to work with him again.

“It will be a long shot I fear because I think he’s so good, and I think he may show that in this World Cup.

“He will go back to Chelsea and they will be very happy with what they have got.”

West Ham and Everton are also understood to be interested in Loftus-Cheek should he be allowed to leave Chelsea again this summer, either on-loan or permanently.
