Liverpool Vs Chelsea: Match Preview And Prediction

Chelsea need to be at their best against Liverpool as a win might go a long way towards deciding if the title will come to Stamford Bridge this year or not. Despite the awful losing streak, Klopp’s team has suffered, a trip to Anfield is always going to be difficult.

Conte is well aware of that as reported by the BBC: “Liverpool’s recent results are difficult to explain and I feel they have been unlucky.

“We have grown since our first meeting with Liverpool and we have improved a lot in terms of our identity and confidence.

“When you face teams of the same level it’s important to win for confidence, but the difficulty is high.”

Even though it is not that fair-play to think this way, this game couldn’t have come at a better time for the Blues. A win at Anfield would not only almost remove Liverpool from the title race but would also provide a huge morale boost ahead of the game that also really matters – the one against Arsenal.

Looking at the statistics from 2017, Chelsea are clear favorites. Liverpool haven’t managed to win a single Premier League game since the new year and have lost their edge apparently. The Blues on the other hand have proven the 2-0 loss against Tottenham in the beginning of January was a simple slip-up with 4 straight wins since then and a staggering 13 goals scored.

Team Updates

Liverpool might not be counting on Sadio Mane who has had a horrendous couple of days and is probably exhausted both mentally and physically. Clyne and Lallana are also doubtful as both have to deal with minor injuries.

Chelsea have a complete lot but might not be using Begovic and Ivanovic who are rumored to leave before the 1st of February.

Head to Head

Chelsea look like the underdogs here as Liverpool haven’t lost any of their last 4 encounters.

I predict a 2-1 win for Chelsea who might get even more goals if they manage to score early on and take the crowd out of the game. Diego Costa is likely to be key again and if he bullies and pressures the somewhat shaky Liverpool defence and manages to have a good game then the chances are Chelsea will too and will win which will give them a 13 point lead over the Merseysiders which you would have to say is pretty much unassailable. While Robert0 Firmino is the star man for Liverpool – he needs to deliver a really big game (perhaps his biggest yet in the red jersey of Liverpool)  if the Reds are to stand a good chance of beating the Blues and gaining all important ground in the title race.
