Lewandowski deal seems unlikely after Bayern coach’s comments

Chelsea have been dealt a big blow in their pursuit of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, after the German champions’ head coach Niko Kovac insisted that the player will remain at the club this summer.

It has been heavily rumoured that the Polish international wanted out of Munich this summer, with Lewandowski’s agent revealing that his client wanted a move away.

But as Bayern prepare for the new season, they have always stood firm that their No.9 would be staying at the club, now it seems they will have their wish as per Kovac’s comments.

Kovac, who took over this summer at Bayern, insists he has spoken to Lewandowski and he will not be exiting the club for Chelsea or indeed Real Madrid.

“Nothing new about Robert Lewandowski,” said Kovac when asked about the striker’s future.

“I called him and gave him my point of view. I look forward to having him in the team.

“He is a great player, a world-class striker who has done a lot for the club and will do a lot in the future.”

It is still unclear whether or not the player will get his way and leave Bayern, but perhaps it is time Chelsea turned their attention to alternative strikers.
