Leverkusen Impose Deadline On Havertz Transfer As Negotiations With Chelsea Reach Critical Stage

Bayer Leverkusen want Kai Havertz‘s future resolved by the end of August, according to the Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano. The reliable journalist took to Twitter last night to provide the latest on Chelsea’s move for the German international.

His fellow Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg followed that update with more promising news this morning, stating that a productive meeting between the Blues and Leverkusen was held yesterday, with the two sides getting closer to an agreement on price.

Chelsea have already had a €65m (£58.6m) offer, plus €15m (£13.5m) in add-ons, rejected, with Leverkusen looking for the Blues to match their €100m (£90m) asking price.

It is believed the €20m gap is bridgeable, although Chelsea will be hoping to use bonuses and add-ons to make up a lot of the shortfall.

This deal looks like it will now be finalised, with the two clubs having made progress on the transfer fee and, with Havertz keen on the transfer, supporters will undoubtedly be excited about the German making the switch to Stamford Bridge.
