Leicester City vs Chelsea: Match Preview and Predictions

Chelsea travel to the King Power Stadium on Saturday to face Leicester City and will hope to continue their fine form of late.

The Blues go into the match having won two and lost one in the Premier League so far this season, while Leicester have had a single victory and two defeats. It will seem like a must win game for Antonio Conte’s men, seeing as both Arsenal and Manchester United tucked the Midlands side away earlier in the season. However, with the in-form partnership of Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki up front, it will be no easy task for the Chelsea defence.

The Blues do have former Leicester midfielders Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante available to them, with the pair playing a key part in the Foxes title win during the 15/16 season. Drinkwater will be a big loss to Leicester this season, and his replacement Adrien Silva will not be available to the club until at least January, after missing the transfer deadline by 14 seconds.

Leicester are likely to continue lining up in Craig Shakespeare’s preferred 4-4-2 formation, whilst Chelsea will most likely revert to their trusted 3-4-3 formation for the game.

Gary Cahill is still suspended after being sent off against Burnley on the opening day of the season, but star man Eden Hazard could be available for his first Chelsea game of the season. The Foxes haven’t made many changes so far this season, but there are a few shouts that winger Riyad Mahrez could be dropped after he wanted out of the club during transfer deadline day.

The two sides have faced each other 109 times before, with Chelsea coming out victorious on 54 occasions, Leicester winning 25 of their meetings, and the other 30 ending in draws. Chelsea have only lost once to Leicester in all competitions since February 2001 (11 wins, one draw, one defeat). Leicester’s 39 per cent average possession is the second-lowest in the Premier League so far this season, with Chelsea’s 51 per cent being the seventh highest.
