Leboeuf Questions Chelsea’s Decision To Shell Out On Summer Signing Despite 4 Goals In 6 Games

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf says he is still not convinced that the Blues were right to spend £90m on attacking midfielder Kai Havertz.

The German international has scored four goals and provided two assists in six appearances since making the switch from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. He also scored against Southampton at the weekend but, while Lebouef is a fan of his teammate Timo Werner, he is not certain that Havertz will improve:

“I’m not convinced about Havertz, I’m not that optimistic. I’m very pleased with Werner, he’s a real satisfaction.”

Havertz is only 21 years of age and has huge potential so Leboeuf is being very premature in his judgement of the player. Although he has yet to set the world alight, he has scored and contributed two assists in his last three Premier League matches so he is making an impact on games.

There are bigger problems in other areas of the pitch, particularly in defence where they badly missed the experience of Thiago Silva versus Southampton on Saturday. The Brazilian should, though, be back in contention for the match against Sevilla tomorrow evening.
