Latest Chelsea Injury Report: Updates On Mendy And Kante

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy will be assessed at Cobham today after picking up a rib injury in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa yesterday evening.

The 29-year-old injured himself when colliding with the post as he tried to prevent Villa’s opening goal from Bertrand Traore. He was replaced at half-time by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

After the match, manager Thomas Tuchel refused to put a timeframe on Mendy’s return but the keeper is now in a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of the Champions League final against Manchester City this weekend.

The Blues’ only other injury concern at the moment is N’Golo Kante. The 30-year-old was not in the matchday squad for the Villa loss due to a hamstring problem.

It was always thought that the Frenchman would be touch and go for the trip to Villa Park, and Tuchel has said that he expects the midfielder to be back in training at the start of this week.
