Latest Chelsea Injury Report: Updates On Abraham, Thiago Silva And Kovacic

Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham is still not 100% fit after failing to recover fully from an ankle knock that he picked up last month against Newcastle.

The striker did play the first 45 minutes in the subsequent match versus Southampton but he has now missed the last four league games. Manager Thomas Tuchel says he is concerned and it is not known when we will see the England international back in action.

Thiago Silva suffered a setback in training ahead of the game versus Leeds United at the weekend. The Brazilian had stepped up his recovery last week following a thigh muscle injury that he sustained in the win over Tottenham at the beginning of February.

However, the 36-year-old is still suffering from pain in the same muscle and, as a precaution, the player will be given more time to get back to full fitness. He is highly unlikely to play against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Mateo Kovacic was a surprise absentee from the starting lineup at Elland Road on Saturday. The Croatian international has been ever-present since Tuchel’s arrival at Stamford Bridge but he was an unused substitute in the 0-0 draw.

Asked about the player’s fitness following the match, Tuchel revealed that the 26-year-old had simply been rested, although he admitted he was concerned that the midfielder could have been at risk of getting injured after playing so many matches recently:

“We took one decision today with Kova, to not let him play and not to have maybe another risk of injury.”

With Mason Mount and Jorginho suspended for the second leg against Atletico Madrid, though, Kovacic is almost guaranteed to be in the starting eleven when they face off against the La Liga side.
