Latest Chelsea Injury News: Updates On Mount, Kante, Ziyech, Azpilicueta, James And Loftus Cheek

Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount had to be substituted in extra-time against Plymouth at the weekend after feeling pain when hitting a shot.

The 23-year-old did not take part during the first training session in Abu Dhabi, and he is a major doubt for the Club World Cup semi-final against Al-Hilal.

Hakim Ziyech and captain Cesar Azpilicueta also picked up minor niggles on Saturday but they were able to complete training yesterday. As did N’Golo Kante. The Frenchman missed the Plymouth win but he is expected to be in contention to play on Wednesday evening.

Considering manager Thomas Tuchel said in Friday’s pre-match press conference that he wouldn’t feature in the Club World Cup, it was a surprise to see Reece James in the travelling party. The fullback is still unlikely to play as he is training on his own, continuing his recovery from a serious hamstring injury.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek missed the Plymouth match with a knock and he isn’t with the first-team squad in the UAE so it looks as though he could be out for at least another week or two.
