Chelsea’s record signing Romelu Lukaku has revealed that he is carrying a thigh injury. The 28-year-old says he will undergo a scan on the issue before returning to Cobham for treatment.

Despite playing in Belgium’s two wins against Estonia and the Czech Republic, his participation against Aston Villa on Saturday evening is now in some doubt.

N’Golo Kante had to withdraw from international duty with France due to an ongoing ankle problem. The midfielder did play the first 45 minutes against Liverpool but he suffered a recurrence of an old injury after a collision with an opponent.

Kai Havertz seems to be closing in on a return to full fitness. The 22-year-old has been absent for Germany’s two World Cup qualifiers so far during the international break after picking up flu.

However, national team head coach Hansi Flick has confirmed that the forward is back working in the gym, but hasn’t yet returned to training. It does sound like, though, that he will be in contention to play for Chelsea this weekend.
