Latest Chelsea Injury News Ahead Of The Game Against Liverpool

Mason Mount suffered an ankle injury early on in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Valencia last night and is now a major doubt for Sunday’s game against Liverpool.

After the match, manager Frank Lampard confirmed that the seriousness of the problem has yet to be determined but he will be assessed over the next couple of days:

“He’s got an ankle injury but we don’t know how bad it is. We’ll have to assess it in the next 48 hours to see the scale of the injury. It was a shame because he started the game well and it meant we had to make the change early on.”

Reece James (ankle) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (Achilles) are now both fit but Lampard has confirmed that they may feature for the Under 23s against Southampton on Saturday as they build up their fitness.

Antonio Rudiger has a groin problem and it remains to be seen how long he will be out for. The German only returned against Wolves last Saturday following five months out with a knee injury.

Emerson did not recover from a thigh strain in time for the Valencia game. He sustained the issue on international duty and has missed the last two matches. The Italian is unlikely to feature against the Reds at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

N’Golo Kante could make his return from an ankle injury, but his recovery has been slower than expected so it is touch and go whether he’ll feature.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles) and Marco van Ginkel (knee) are long-term injury absentees with both still months away from fitness.
