Lampard To Follow Terry Footsteps?

After securing John Terry on a one-year extension, Chelsea are now in the process of convincing Frank Lampard to stay at the club for one more season before ending his long stint with the Blues, according to the Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho took charge of the club a year ago and over the season realised the weaknesses in the squad, which primarily included a lack of depth in a few positions. But transforming a club of Chelsea’s stature is a lengthy process as other clubs are aware of their financial prowess. Mourinho has made his intentions clear of spending in the market, and other clubs may use that to get bigger transfer fees. However, it is very important that the crux of the side, i.e. the original experienced players stay and oversee this transformation. Terry has lead the club from the front, and has already put pen to paper, extending his contract by one year. Lampard has been ever so consistent for Chelsea, and is a big influence in midfield. One player whose time seems to be up at Stamford Bridge is Ashley Cole, who will most certainly leave the club in the coming months.

Lampard’s presence next season will not only help new players settle in, but also help young academy players to climb the ranks.
