Lampard Thinks Chelsea Wrong To Let Sturridge Join Liverpool

The 24-year-old, Daniel Sturridge signed for Chelsea in July 2009 from Manchester City and played 96 times for the London club. However, he never featured prominently for the club and was sold to Liverpool in January 2013 after growing increasingly dissatisfied with his opportunities under Roberto Di Mateo and Rafa Benitez. Andre Villas-Boas actually used Sturridge the most but after he left neither RDM or Rafa trusted the young striker to do a job for them.

The Englishman has been in prolific form for the Reds, having notched up an amazing tally of 31 league goals in just 43 matches. His 21 league goals last season nearly propelled Liverpool to their first league title in 24 years.

Lampard, who is certain to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, has revealed his thoughts about the sale of Sturridge to Liverpool. According to the Standard, Lampard said that Chelsea were wrong to let go of the former Man City striker.

He said, “I’m really pleased for Sturridge because at Chelsea I think he was a bit frustrated. He felt he could have played more. He felt the position he was playing in was one he wasn’t quite happy with and it was good for him to move in the end.”

“It may not be good business for Chelsea. It looks bad, but you look back and you never know.”
