Lampard Speaks Out On Shock Decision To Drop High Profile Chelsea Star

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard opted to drop first-choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in favour of Willy Caballero for the Blues’ game against Leicester today.

The Spaniard has not been in great form in recent weeks, and when asked about his decision prior to kick-off at the King Power Stadium, Lampard simply said it was a tough choice:

“It’s a decision I have not taken lightly. They train together, they are close and it’s one I thought I’d make for this game. I trust in Willy, he’s very professional.”

Doubts will now be raised about Kepa’s long term future at the club following his omission from the starting line up.

The 25-year-old is the world’s most expensive goalkeeper at £72m but he has been struggling for a long time, and Lampard has now decided to take action.

With the transfer window now closed, the timing is surprising, to say the least. With no opportunity to bring in a replacement, he will either have to keep faith with Caballero for the remainder of the season, or he may have to reinstate Kepa to the side at some point.
