Lampard Scores 200th Goal In Win Over Hammers

So on a great day for Chelsea, Frank Lampard scored his 200th Chelsea goal with a header from just inside the penalty area in the 18th minute of his team’s 2-0 Premier League win over West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. Lampard sits only 2 goals behind Chelsea legend Bobby Tambling’s record of 202 goals and it looks like it is just a matter of time before the record becomes Lampard’s barring serious injury.

Chelsea dominated the match against the Hammers and it was the Belgian wizard, Eden Hazard who was the star of the show and tormentor-in-chief of the East London club. Hazard was everywhere beating men, playing slick passes and dribbling like a man possessed. Hazard capped his terrific personal performance with a superbly taken goal from just inside the West Ham area only 5 minutes after the second half resumed. The goal essentially sealed the game for Chelsea as they were so dominant on the day.

Demba Ba was preferred to Fernando Torres up front, as Benitez shuffled his pack for the match but the Senegalese striker could not take advantage of his starting role as he wasted a number of chances to put the Blues out of sight and the game to bed but ultimately it did not matter as West Ham could not get on the scoresheet once.

So with the 3 points won against West Ham, Chelsea moved back into 3rd position in the league above Spurs by 1 point and they have a game in hand over old manager, AVB’s club, who lost at home to Fulham and have lost 2 games in a row now in the league. The other good fortune for Chelsea this weekend came with Man City’s loss to Everton which means City are only 4 points ahead of Chelsea now.

So Chelsea go into the international break in good form and can look forward to resuming their assault on the two cups (FA Cup and Europa League) plus Champions League qualification with renewed confidence, knowing that 2nd place in the League is still very much in reach for them this season.
