Lampard Responds To Chelsea Talk As Odds Tumble On Legend Taking Over

Derby County manager Frank Lampard has said he is fully focused on his job at the Championship club despite speculation over Maurizio Sarri’s future at Chelsea.

The Blues legend is the favourite at some bookmakers to take over at Stamford Bridge if the Italian is sacked.

However, speaking about his future, Lampard said he is not taking any notice of the betting odds and respects the job Sarri is doing at his former club:

“Bookmakers are not always right for starters, so I wouldn’t get excited about that. Chelsea are certainly a club I respect, and have a manager I respect.”

“My job is here and I’m working very hard. All my thoughts are on Ipswich Town away on Wednesday. I hope to see Chelsea put some form together and turn their results around.”

Other reports have suggested that another legend, Gianfranco Zola, could be asked to take charge as interim boss for the remainder of the season if Sarri can’t turn the club’s form around.

It is believed the former Napoli head coach’s future will be decided over the next month, with the Europa League tie against Malmo, the FA Cup game against Manchester United and the Carabao Cup final versus Manchester City all to be played in the next couple of weeks.
