Lampard Not Ready For Goodbye Yet

The England international has spent the majority of his career at Stamford Bridge following his move from West Ham United. Over the years, Lampard has established himself as one of the club’s legends and a part of the old guard for the Blues along with John Terry and former striker Didier Drogba.

The veteran midfielder has earned every trophy which is up for grabs with Chelsea, and has also collected personal accolades along the way. Currently standing at 203 goals for Chelsea, not only is he the club’s leading midfield goal scorer, he is now also the club record holder for the number of goals scored by any player in their history having moved 1 goal ahead of Bobby Tambling with his brace against Aston Villa on the weekend.

Despite his iconic status at Stamford Bridge, Lampard has been allowed to enter into the final year of his contract with the club, and is now on the verge of running down his contract which expires at the end of the current season. There were strong rumors which suggested that he would quit the club in the summer and perhaps join the MLS league in the USA, which has become somewhat of a retirement home for the English Premier League veterans.

However, he recently spoke to SkySports and was asked about his future to which he replied, “I’ve always said that I wanted to spend all my career here and I think everyone knows that.”

Despite being down the pecking order after Chelsea’s dynamic midfield trio of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar, he has scored an impressive amount of goals this season and has caused a selection headache for manager Rafael Benitez.

It will definitely be a loss for the club if they let him leave, and they also have a risk of facing the fans’ wrath who love Lampard dearly. What do you think boss Roman Abramovich should do next? Does he offer the veteran an extension, or will he offload him to make room for new and young players to further boost their already strong midfield?

It seems highly likely after this weekend’s result where Lampard helped Chelsea secure Champions League football that Abramovich will do the right thing for the team and offer Frank an extension. Surely, if Jose comes back he will want Lampard around.
