Lampard Misses A Penalty As Chelsea Lose 2-0 To Man City

Lampard Misses A PenaltyEven with Rafa Benitez’s great record against Manchester City, Chelsea could not take the chance to move within a point of City in 2nd place in the Barclays Premier League.

Benitez won his 1st ever match managing in the premier league leading his old club Liverpool to a win over Man City and he has only ever lost once to them in his career previously. With the loss today the Blues are now 7 points behind Manchester City in 2nd and catching them looks like it could be a big ask.

The first half was a fairly sedate affair with not much going on and it was not until Demba Ba won a penalty for the Blues just after half time that the game came to life. Frank Lampard had the chance to score his 200th Chelsea goal and he struck a good penalty but Joe Hart made a fine save to deny him diving down to his right with a strong hand to make the stop.

Yaya Toure then broke the dead lock as he used Cahill as a screen and beat Cech from the edge of the 6 yard box after 62 minutes, finding the left corner of the Chelsea goal.

Benitez made a raft of substitutions sending on Oscar for Lampard, Moses on for Hazard and ultimately Torres on for Mikel to try and get the equaliser but it was all to no avail as the Blues could not get on the score board.

Tevez put the result beyond doubt with a goal from just outside the box on 84 minutes with JT looking on as a frustrated spectator clearly wishing he could have helped his team.
