Lampard Keen On Signing £31m Barcelona Stopper As Chelsea Look To Shore Up Backline

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is looking to bring Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti to Stamford Bridge, according to reports in the Catalan media.

The Blues are one of six teams who are said to have made an enquiry about the 26-year-old, with Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain also in the running.

Barca are said to be prepared to let Umtiti leave for between €25m (£22m) and €35m (£31m) as the La Liga side look to free up funds for other potential transfers.

The Frenchman is left-footed and it is becoming a growing theme among the centre-backs who have been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks.

In addition to Lille’s Gabriel Magalhaes, the London club are also reportedly interested in Velez Sarsfield’s Luis Abram. It appears Lampard is looking to strengthen a weakness in the centre of defence, with all of his other centre-halves favouring the right-hand side.
