REPORT: Chelsea Player Says Decision To Move Out On Loan Transfer Was ‘Easy’

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga said his decision to move on loan to Real Madrid was ‘easy’ according to an interview he conducted with Marca [via Fabrizio Romano on Twitter].

In the interview, Kepa reinforces the notion that he rejected a potential move on loan to Bayern Munich – but he had no reservations about making the jump to Los Blancos.

He mentioned that while playing for Chelsea, he has played against Real Madrid on three occasions. During each of these of these three games, he said that he wished he was in the ‘local [home] dressing room’.

Kepa made the jump to Real Madrid on a season-long loan deal on August 14 – he was signed to provide cover for former Chelsea ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois, who suffered a pre-season ACL injury.

What did Kepa Arrizabalaga say in the interview?

In the interview, Kepa said: “No to Bayern? Real Madrid is Real Madrid. When Real Madrid call you, it’s easy. I’ve faced Real 3 times with Chelsea.

“When I arrived at Bernabéu I always turned left, to the visiting dressing room, but I wanted to turn right, to [the] local dressing room!”

Would Kepa be a better choice than Robert Sanchez for Chelsea this season?

Robert Sanchez has had a steady, if unspectacular start to life at Chelsea. His campaign has not been free from errors, but it would be unfair to call him a failure at this stage.

He is far more consistent than Kepa, who is prone to some baffling moments of madness, but he is likewise incapable of pulling off spectacular saves that the loanee has become known for.

At this point, Kepa has simply made far too many costly mistakes in a Chelsea shirt. This does not mean he is destined for failure at Stamford Bridge – but a loan move away from the club could be what he needs to regain his lost confidence.

He is under contract at Chelsea until the summer of 2025. He may be given another chance between the stick for the Blues next season – however, there is also the chance that they may look to cash in on his services before his current deal expires.
