Kante issues huge demands ahead of Chelsea’s title defence

Chelsea stormed to Premier League success last season, aided by summer signing N’Golo Kante- a man who won PFA Player of the Year after lifting his second league title in a row, having been a key part of Leicester’s surprise success the previous season.

The Blues have endured a difficult summer following their loss to Arsenal in the FA Cup final, missing out on targets like Romelu Lukaku, but progress has been made in recent weeks- with Antonio Conte’s side landing Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko, with Alvaro Morata set to be the next through the door.

Chelsea’s depth still lacks in key areas, which means Conte is likely to stay active in the market, and midfielder Kante is eyeing further success this season- as he eyes his third Premier League crown in a row and also targets success during his first season playing in the Champions League.

Quoted by The Daily Mirror, the French international said:

“After every game you have to do better in the next game and the season is the same. After last season we have to start in the same way and try to do better. We know at a club like Chelsea a good season means to win titles. So we will try to win some. We will win what we can win.”

“It will be [my] first time to play in the Champions League. Chelsea was the last English club to win it and a club like Chelsea needs to be in the Champions League. We have to think about doing very well in it.”

Chelsea tackle Arsenal in the Far East this weekend in a pre-season friendly, which acts as a warm-up for the Community Shield showdown at Wembley which is now just a few weeks away, and the Blues will want to ensure they hit the ground running.

With Bakayoko currently carrying an injury though, which delayed his arrival from Monaco, and Morata not yet through the door, Chelsea may have to field a side that Conte sees as second-fiddle, although this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Chelsea didn’t really have any competition for places last season and they could certainly benefit from having a strong list of capable players at their disposal, allowing Conte to chop and change things as he sees fit with Chelsea’s return to the European stage.
